What is a Realtor®?

Goldfarb Real Estate Inc., Brokerage is an agent authorized to trade in real estate. Its duly authorized representatives are Brokers and Sales Representatives employed by Goldfarb Real Estate Inc. Under common law, real estate brokerages and their representatives must adhere to principles and procedures established over many years by the Courts and must also ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements set out in the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002, and Associated Regulations (REBBA 2002 or Act).

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is the designated government authority charged with administering the REBBA 2002, which includes the Act, Regulations, and a Code of Ethics, that all registrants in Ontario must follow. RECO’s mandate is twofold:
(1) administer the regulatory requirements of the real estate industry (as determined by the Government of Ontario); and
(2) protect consumers and members through a fair, safe and informed marketplace.

We are also members of the local Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB), which administers to local MLS®, the Provincial Ontario Real Estate College (OREA), which is responsible for education and other services, and the national Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), which is the national organization for REALTORS® throughout Canada. Together, these three organizations represent organized real estate, and its members are also called Realtors® - a registered trademark that may only be used by an active member of a real estate board affiliated with CREA. Not all registrants under RECO are also called Realtors®.
